Sourced With Intention, Milled With Care
We’re Making Feed with Montana’s Best Organic & Regenerative Inputs
Why We’re Here
Far Our Feeds was built from our own struggle to source the right feed for our pasture-raised Mangalitsa herd.
Now, we’re here to support our herd and yours by offering the most carefully sourced and best milled feed option in Western Montana, a region with few commercial feed options.
Our Values Feed Your Fancy
We're committed to the following core values:
transparency
We are committed to being open about what’s in our feeds, why each ingredient is used, and how it supports animal health.
Sustainability
We use vetted byproducts when possible, source ingredients from local grain growers, and seek to lower barriers for small and regional farmers by offering more affordable custom feed blends.
Nutrition
Our mill holds close relationships with nutrition experts, and conducts ongoing analyses and process improvements to help animals thrive.
Consistency
We know the importance of keeping feed blends consistent, and are committed to offering consistency in both quality of ingredients and milling to keep your flock or herd happy.
community
We want the mill to be a local hub for community, connection, and education. Our pickup days are a great opportunity for farmers to meet other farmers, and we plan to establish a work-trade program for locals and 4H kids.
We're picky about our partners
Not only is the mill working towards Organic Certification, but we have high standards for who we work with to source our grains.
Our partners are folks who practice regenerative methods such as diverse crop rotations and pollinator conservation, and hold certifications from Regenerative Organic Alliance and Bee Better.
Why do we do this? Because it results in a better product, so your animals are healthier and happier.
VILICUS FARMS
Vilicus Farms is a first generation, organic 12,000 acre dryland crop farm north of the Hi-Line in Montana growing a diverse array of organic heirloom and specialty grain, pulse, oilseed and broadleaf crops under five and seven-year rotations.
In 2009, Vilicus Farms sprouted from 1,280 acres using USDA’s beginning farmer programs, employing extensive conservation practices, and fostering unique risk sharing relationships with food companies, land investment firms and individuals that care about having an intact planet. Over 26% of their land is in non-crop conservation and 600 acres seeded to native pollinator habitat. Annually they seed over 3,000 acres of cover crops, and use integrated grazing.
They have hosted 14 apprentices, many interns and more farm campers than can be counted. Their value-added enterprise sells identity-preserved rye, lentils and other grains direct to distillers, bakers and eaters.
Vilicus Farms holds USDA Organic, Bee Better, Real Organic Project, and Regenerative Organic Silver certifications.
